Straights
Peanuts - the classic wild bird food is still a favourite in the UK. It's an easy food to offer with very little waste or mess left behind, but remember that whole peanuts should only be offered in a feeder during the spring to prevent young birds taking the whole peanut and choking.
If you want to attract some of the prettier species of birds, try niger, this is a firm favourite of some of the finch family. If you offer some niger you are sure to see Goldfinches visiting your garden.
